Memorial Day

We had a really great Memorial Day. Some of Kenny's best friends growing up came to town to visit us. Mark, his lovely wife Katie, and Brad spent the day with us and we had lots of adventures including tubing on the lake and a tour of the ranch on the 6-man ranger. Poor Reagan was not a fan of going in sharp circles on the boat but she certainly did not want to be left out of all the fun.

A Day of Rest

After all the wedding excitement was over, we enjoyed the calmness of Sunday. Here are a few photos from Sunday at the ranch. We fed the horses some of the green apples that were used in Dana's flower arrangements.

This is Strawberry, the pony "Pa" bought for the grandkids.

It's easy to tell Lauren is Rachel's daughter becuase they look so much alike, but her fascination with the sparklers proves she's got a lot of her daddy in her as well ;-).

The Wedding Day

The Rehearsal Dinner

Dana & Shawn's wedding rehearsal & rehearsal dinner was held Friday evening at the ranch. I bought a special fiesta themed outfit to wear ;-). Dana made almost all of the decorations and napkin ring flowers for it. Pappasito's came up from Houston to cater it and their fajitas were awesome as usual! It was an intimate evening with close family and friends.

Here, Kenny & I are with the Cloutmans who made a special DVD photo memory montage set to music for Dana & Shawn, which was very nice.

Love those fajitas!

I have a confession to make . . . .

Ever since I got an ipod three years ago I NEVER buy cd's. I think maybe I've bought one at the most since then. And I'm not exactly sure what possessed me to search BestBuy for this particular album but it was just some strange impulse, perhaps driven by the crazy injections I've been on the last few weeks?

Anyway, I confess, I bought Nick Lachey's new album "What's Left of Me". I'm not even that big of a pop music or boy band type of listener but something inside me just had to buy it ;-). But the biggest surprise is how good it actually is. He is listed as a writer on almost all of the songs and you almost feel like you're listening to personal letters intended for one audience.

Here are a few lyrics:
"You've got it all but still you long for more/You cry/So desperate for your place among the stars/But why/You're searching for what you already are

You're beautiful/That's all I can say/Unforgettable/I'm caught in every way/Don't ever let the mirror tell you lies/Just look at your reflection through my eyes"

"But if the world should ever fall apart around you/And if you're lost and barely breathing I will find you/And carry you back home/I won't forsake the only love I've ever known/When you're out there on your own

And I will wait/However long it takes/Till you realize what you've been searching for/Was right here all along"

That's sad stuff!!

A Gorgeous Weekend

This past weekend was absolutely gorgeous! Kenny was out of town fishing with Terrell in an unofficial KMC fishing tournament at Lake Sam Rayburn. I stayed at the ranch and enjoyed the pool and spent time with Casey & Lauren while Rachel was out of town, and Dana & Shawn who were working on last minute wedding details.

It's really cool that the negative edge is now working so it looks like the pool just keeps going on into the lake.

Dana & Shawn prepared table decorations and wedding programs.

Air Lauren worked on her Slam Dunk ;-)

5 Days and Counting

Dana is getting married on Saturday!! We are so excited! We are really praying for some good weather since the wedding is outside and the forcast shows a chance of rain.

Puppy Love

Reagan got a visit from her new cousin Chloe and we saw lots of Chocolate and Vanilla romping around the kitchen. It has taken Reagan a while to warm up to Amy's new puppy but she is definitely coming around and was even willing to share her stuffed duck which is her most prized posession. Boy was Reagan tired after they left!

Wedding Bells

Less than 12 days until Dana & Shawn's wedding!! We can't wait!! I went to get my dress fitted and all it needed was some minor adjustments for my shortness of stature =-). Dana seems to be pretty calm but sleep deprived. Fortunately for her, she and Shawn will be relaxing by the beach in Jamaica very soon!

Is Your Summer Tan to Die For??

May is Melanoma Awareness Month. Melanoma is the deadliest skin cancer and takes the lives of almost 8,000 Americans every year, that's one American every hour. This year 53,000 Americans will be diagnosed.

I'm a malignant melanoma survivor. Not just once, but twice, both diagnosed and removed in 2002 along with lymph nodes and large sections of healthy skin, some replaced with skin grafting. Melanoma is beatable if it's detected early but once it has spread to other parts of the body it is almost always fatal.

So next time you head to the tanning booth or lay by the pool without wearing suncreen, remember the following facts about Melanoma:

• It is the fastest growing cancer currently in USA and worldwide
• It is the most common cancer in young adults aged 20-30
• Currently MORE new cases of melanoma than HIV/AIDS
• Women age 25-30: melanoma is the leading cause of cancer death
• Women age 30-35: melanoma is the #2 cause of cancer death (after breast cancer)
• Melanoma = 5% of all skin cancers / 71% all skin cancer deaths
• Melanoma does occur in ALL races and age groups – including Pediatric age groups

So PLEASE, wear sunscreen and see a dermatologist for annual skin exams.

Lots of Showers

We had a very busy day on Saturday. First we had a bridal shower for Dana given by the Ladies of Westminster in the morining. She got so many nice things! Then in the evening there was a Couple's Shower at the Blatchley's. The turnout was very good and we got to see some of our favorite people including all the Owens, the Rineharts, Julie & Katie, the Bollines, the Lewises and so many more. It was a lot of fun and Dana & Shawn looked so cute.

Bachelorette Party in Vegas

I just got back from a girls trip to Vegas with Dana, mom, and my aunt Julie to celebrate Dana's last few weeks as a single gal. We stayed at the Monte Carlo and had a great time. Our adventures included seeing the musical Hairspray (didn't care for it), Entertainer of the Year Danny Gans (the best show I've seen in Vegas), a shopping spree to Frederick's of Hollywood (ooh la la), dinner at Emeril's New Orleans Fish House, and Bingo at the Gold Coast. I finally got my first Bingo and wouldn't you know, all the winners were getting like $400 or more but when I won, there were 17 other winners and so I only got $24!! Oh well, it was a lot of fun anyway.
