what we've been up to

Here is a brief rundown:

Helmets: The boys' heads look so much better! Andrew only has to wear his part of the day now. His banding will for sure be complete in only 3 more weeks! Adam still has to wear his most of the day but not quite as rigidly. Originally they told us he would be in the helmet for many months but he might be done in 3 weeks too depending on how it looks then. They are amazed at how fast his head improved. It has been exactly 2 months since we started the cranial banding, it really hasn't been bad at all like I worried it might be. I'm so glad we were able to do this for them!

Weights: Our nutritionist came today for a visit and we now have a 20-pounder in the house!! That's right, Adam is now 10 times his birth weight!!! Praise God for his many blessings! Andrew is also gaining pretty well, he weighed in at 16 lbs 15oz. We had weaned him off the karo but they want us to put him back on it even though he is eating great these days. Now that he is getting more and more active he is burning more calories and so the karo will help him make up the difference. Both boys had a really good length growth spurt and are now both right about 27 inches!!

Neurology: Andrew has his 6 month neurology appointment this Thursday at Texas Children's. I can't believe it's already been six months since the last time we were there. I think/hope the doctor will be pleased with his development but these types of checkups always make me nervous. Hopefully we'll get good news. No matter what, he has already surpassed many of the things that were predicted for him. He is such a joy to my heart, I simply cannot imagine life without him. He's perfect to me just the way he is, I'm so very proud of my little fighter.

Adam is 20 lbs!!

On Monday we got to go over to the Guinn Triplets house for a fun afternoon playdate. We had such a good time, thanks for having us and thanks also for lunch!! Andrew & Adam loved watching the older kids run around, it was very exciting. The triplets were so gentle and sweet with the babies, they are such great kids!

Game Photos

These are photos from my brother's camera. They aren't from the most recent game but they were so cute I wanted to post them. The top photo is one of Adam and his cousin Luke. Adam's cheeks look so pinchably chubby! In that helmet he also kinda reminds me of a baby version of Ol' Sarge.

We took the babies down on the field after the OSU game. That's me and my dad ("Pa" to the grandkids).

More Beautiful Weather =-)

The most exciting parts of today's game was the fly over by the service's largest helicopter and then seeing Adam & Andrew's photo on the screen of the big Score Board!

I haven't followed the doctor's orders very well about not lifting anything

A Beautiful Day

The weather here today was absolutely gorgeous! It was just cool enough to get some use out of our new fall wardrobe which is good since we've grown out of all our summer clothes. I took the boys to get their flu shots today and Kenny & I got ours this week too. I redid the boys helmets again with the help of Aunt Dana. This time Andrew got a Fishing/Hunting theme and Adam got Thomas the Train. The boys also got to try out another of the birthday gifts that I got them, a ride on Winnie the Pooh car, they look so grown up on it!!

Silly Boy, Adam throws a huge fit if you put him on his stomach for tummy time but now that he can roll over, look how he sleeps!!!

Doing Well

Today went really well, considering I look like I survived a mugging
;-). I have the most awesome doctor and the same wonderful nurse that have been caring for me for years and they take such excellent care of me. Another blessing from our generous and good Lord. They will run another path report on this skin to make sure it's all clear and we expect it will be. I'm pretty sore, you never realize how much that tight skin on your chest moves around just doing normal things like chewing, swallowing, turning to look at things. It's sown up tight and she did a beautiful job, hopefully the skin will relax and not hurt very long. I don't normally heal very well so I may end up with a keloid but hopefully not. I'm not supposed to lift anything for the next two weeks, not so easy when you have two babies!!

Thanks for all the sweet thoughts and prayers, they mean so much!

Warning: Rant Ahead

This evening I picked up Subway for Kenny & I for dinner and I walked right past a Total Tan that was packed with young people, most likely college kids, waiting their turn for some artificial sunlight. I felt this overwhelming urge to run in there and scream at all of them, which of course I didn't do ;-). Yes I know that I have friends that tan and they may be offended by what I'm writing and my apologies to them but I'm offended that people do that to themselves. I wanted to tell those kids that tomorrow I'm having several inches of flesh cut out of my chest. I wanted to tell them that they may be young but they aren't immune or invincible. You don't have to be old or freckled or have red hair to die from melanoma. The only thing that you need is skin and we all have that.

Exposure to tanning beds before age 35 increases melanoma risk by 75 percent.

Melanoma Facts:

•One American dies every hour of every day from melanoma

• It is the fastest growing cancer currently in USA and worldwide

• It is the most common cancer in young adults aged 20-30

• Currently MORE new cases of melanoma than HIV/AIDS

• Women age 25-30: melanoma is the leading cause of cancer death

• Women age 30-35: melanoma is the #2 cause of cancer death (after breast cancer)

• Melanoma = 5% of all skin cancers / 71% all skin cancer deaths

• Melanoma does occur in ALL races and age groups – including Pediatric age groups

Something worth fighting for:

Love your babies, protect their skin!!

One blistering sunburn in childhood more than doubles a person's chances of developing melanoma later in life.

I feel better now that I got that off my chest ;-). Tomorrow at 11am I have my excision, it should be a simple in and out but I'll be glad to get it over with.

A Few Photos

Pa & his Twins

Class of 1997

This weekend was my 10 year high school reunion. Gosh, I'm feeling old! It was a lot of fun to catch up with classmates, many of which I grew up with all the way back from elementary school. Some people were completely different and others hadn't changed at all. It was a good opportunity to reflect on the time since graduation and I'm so thankful to be exactly where I always hoped I would be at this point in my life, happily married to a wonderful man and caring for my sweet children. God has been better to me than I deserve!

I wanted to share some of the recent milestones around here. Andrew is sitting!!! Although he's a little unstable at times he's made so much progress I think it's fair to say he can sit! Way to go!! Also Adam is finally rolling over back to stomach. I've known he could do it he just didn't want to, he only does it if there is a toy or something that he really wants. Adam is also becoming quite the talker. It used to be just Andrew doing the talking but now Adam is very verbal too. He loves to say DaDa and has now added BaBaBa and BlaBlaBla, which must be said while nodding your head in sync, he's too funny.

Big Drew showing off his sitting skills

Here the boys are enjoying their new Ball Tent that I got them for their upcoming first birthday. I couldn't wait until then to get it out, I wanted to see what they would think about it. So far it's been a pretty big hit. I just need to get some more balls for it. I'm converting the dining room into a play room as their birthday gift so the ball tent will go in there.

Granny & Pa

I just got this photo from Granny & Pa, they are in Lincoln, Nebraska cheering on the Aggies. What a good picture from a cell phone! Gig'em Aggies!

Please keep the family of Pat Anderson in your prayers. Today was her funeral, she was killed in a car accident earlier this week. Pat was one of the sweetest nicest ladies I've ever known. She was a member of our church family that we've known since I was little. Please keep her children and grandchildren in your prayers. I saw Pat at the mall recently and she just gushed over the babies and told me how happy she was for us and how much she had prayed for them. When I was a little girl our children's choir would sing during special services and I always remember Pat coming up and telling me how good we did. When I joined the church in the 4th grade Pat was the first person to come give me a hug after church and tell me how happy she was. She was just a super sweet loving person. She was always kind, always encouraging, she truly radiated Christ's joy. Please also pray for our church and the church leaders, it has been a tough year with many hardships in the congregation but we continually look to God for comfort and know that he is sovereign and good.

Happy Birthday Kenny

Happy Birthday Kenny,

I know it hasn't been the easiest year of your life, I think we both have aged quite a bit since our last birthdays. Through good times and bad you've always been there for us, even when it hasn't been easy. Thanks for always being by my side, holding my hand, offerning me a strong embrace when words just won't do. Our boys are blessed to call you dada and I'm blessed to call you mine.
I love you.
