We made it!

It was a long long long day but the boys are finally in bed and hopefully they'll sleep in tomorrow! They were busy boys on the airplane but over all they did very well, especially when we wound up stranded in the Vail airport for a couple hours since our car battery was dead and Aunt Dana & Uncle Shawn were trapped in Glenwood Canyon for 3 hours behind a terrible traffic accident. Fortunately we are all safely at the house now!

Escaping the Heat

Today the boys and I plus my parents are driving to Dallas to catch a flight to Colorado. We will be gone just short of 2 weeks. Sadly Kenny won't be able to join us because he has a really big project with a looming deadline ahead. We will miss him very much!!

I'm so excited to get out of this sweltering heat and be able to take the babies on walks and to the park without feeling like we'll pass out. The boys will get a two week break from their intense therapy schedule which will be nice for them to just be normal kids for a while.

I hate flying so I'm anxious about that plus this will be the first time for us to fly since the boys were weaned from their pacifiers so I hope they'll behave ;-). The last two times we went to high altitude the boys did awesome with their lungs so hopefully everything will go smoothly again. I'm a little nervous though because Adam has a small cold and for preemies there's always a risk it could migrate to the lungs so I'm praying that won't happen and they'll both do great in the mountains.

Fun in the Sun

The boys had so much fun playing with their friends Jackson, Hudson & Kaylie at the pool and playground! Adam & Andrew were totally worn out after such a busy day!

Prayers Needed (Update)

Earlier this week I told you about a local family that gave birth to 23 week triplets last weekend. I'm sad to report that the family has lost both the girls (identical twins). Their surviving triplet brother remains in critical condition.

Please continue to pray for this family as they grieve the tragic loss of their daughters. Please pray that the Lord would heal and protect their precious son as he continues his battle.

New Shoes!!

Double Trouble!

Thanks everyone for all the tips and advice!! We had much better results looking for shoes today. I think I went to every shoe store in the county ;-)! I bought two pairs of Crocs and a pair of Robeez. And our pt brought over an almost brand new pair of Hatchbacks that another family donated and they fit perfectly. The Hatchbacks are definitely the easiest to get on over the smo's but are very "medical" looking and are clunky and hard for him to walk in. I think the Crocs are his favorite because they are so lightweight. The Robeez are Andrew's least favorite for some reason even though they are so light and he should be used to wearing them since that's all he used to wear.

Which do you like best??

Andrew & His Dinosaur Shoes

Andrew finally got his SMO's/DAFO's/Braces what ever you want to call them. They are green and blue dinosaurs with black straps and green foam. He's not too thrilled about them so far. He's so used to walking with his toes curled tightly under and his feet positioned improperly that it's going to take him a while to get used to this new way of stepping but he'll get there quickly I'm sure.

I need help with shoes!! Anyone have experience or advice for me?? I went to two places and ended up getting a pair from Payless which were the smallest ones I could find that would fit over the brace and actually close. He normally wears a size 4 and most shoes I tried were a 10 to get them on and the pair I bought is an 8.5. But the straps are elastic so they were able to stretch over enough to close which helped a lot. These shoes are so long that he is tripping over the toes. They make some special shoes that can only be ordered over the internet but they are not very cute at all and are very very expensive. Also I'm not sure what size I would need to order. I'd appreciate any ideas!

The dramatic increase in shoe size between his normal shoes and the new pair I bought for his braces. Yikes!

Prayers Needed

A local family has given birth to 23 week premature triplets (identical girls & a boy) this past Saturday. That is over 4 months early and they are in immediate need of prayer.

If you would like to pray for specific micro-preemie needs follow this link for suggestions.

Thank you most sincerely.

I typically don't let Andrew walk all the way to the car but lately he gets very distraught when I put the walker away like I've taken away his legs, it just breaks my heart. So since it was a slow time of day, I carefully walked along beside him as he walked all the way to the car. He was SO proud of himself and it's obvious he loves and needs this feeling of independence.

Today the sweetest lady ever came up to us at the rehab center and said "You may not have noticed but I've been watching your little boy over the last several weeks walk by me with a smile on his face and I can tell he is making great progress every week. He has so much courage." Some people know just the right thing to say! What a blessing she was to me today. My prayer is that Andrew will be a blessing to others all his life.

Andrew is about to get some new wheels! The walker that he is currently using is a loaner and it has fixed front wheels and due to his one-sided issues he has trouble keeping it straight and is constantly getting stuck against walls and furniture and he can't turn it. So his therapist wants to order his own that will have swivel wheels in front for easier turning. It will also have hip pads to keep him from drifting off center. Since it looks like he may be needing the walker for a while longer, getting him one that better meets his needs will help him in the long run to reach independent walking sooner. I have to be patient though because it will take a while to get it ordered and approved by insurance..

Tomorrow Andrew will finally get his DAFO's! He was supposed to have them 2-3 weeks from casting. It was 3 weeks on Monday so I called to check on them since we are about to go out of town for a while. Well they arrived to their office today but they told me I couldn't come get them until next Monday. What?? I told them we'd be at the airport in Dallas during that first available appt and that it just wouldn't work. Was there anyway they could work us in because otherwise we won't be able to get them until July 14th? Nope, too bad so sorry they said (the super nice owner is out of town otherwise I'm sure he would've helped us). I was SO upset, Andrew has already gone up a shoe size since we ordered them and he needs them. So I called our therapists and they both called and finally they agreed to release them to one of the therapists and he will get them tomorrow! Phew, I was not going to be happy until Andrew had his DAFO's before we leave town because when they have them here in their possession.

I can't wait to see all that Andrew will do with all his new accessories!

Where have we been?

Adam & Andrew have taken turns being under the weather the last few days. Both with runny noses and fevers but today they seemed better. Daddy was out of town over the weekend but Aunt Amy & Grandma came to visit on Friday and we had a lot of fun. We ate some yummy food, played on a mini grass "mountain" at the fountain, went swimming, and got Andrew's first professional haircut. Here are some photos from our time together.

This photo was a set up just to email to Daddy so he'd hurry up and come home from the deer lease ;-) Boy is he cute!
