Jump Adam, Jump!

You may have to actually know Adam personally to appreciate how hilarious this video is. Adam is so excited about his new "skill" and I'm sure he'll really be excited when someday he learns to actually get his feet off the ground ;-)!!
We love you Adam!

Tagged: All About Kenny

Marian tagged me with a little fun questionare so now I get to tell you all about Kenny =-)

1. Where did you meet?
After I graduated I was living in Houston and working for Ernst & Young. One weekend we were watching a football game on tv at my brother's house and my brother's wife's mother Becky said "Oooh Lindsey, you've got to meet my yard boy, he's such a nice young man!" Yard boy? I immediately thought "thanks but no thanks" and didn't give it another thought. Then a few weeks later I went back home to attend a football game and on my way to a pre-game party at Becky's house and found out he was going to be there to meet me. I tried to back out but we were already on the way there, me and my ENTIRE family, cozy. Well despite my reservations he was really polite and we chatted despite all the stares from our audience. I gave him my business card, which is very much out of character for me and I'm not sure what possessed me to do that ;-). Well he called me practically the next evening and set up a date.

2. How long did you date? We met November 1, 2003, we got engaged April 16, 2004 and were married November 20, 2004. It was quite a whirlwind of a romance and very exciting time.

Wedding Rehearsal 11/19/04

3. How long have you been married? 4 years as of last week

4. What does he say that surprises you? I always am touched to hear him pray for us and our boys, so sweet.

5. What is your favorite feature of his? Definitely his eyes!

6. What is your favorite quality of his? I love that he is ferociously protective over his kids. Sometimes to the point of being too overprotective but I know it's because he really loves them and has been deeply impacted by what they went through.

Daddy's Pinkie Finger & Andrew's Baby Feet

7. Does he have a nickname for you? Baby, or Sweetie if he's mad at me

8. What is his favorite color? Blue or camo depending on where he is

9. What is his favorite food? Probably gumbo, a crawfish boil, anything cajun and fajitas

10. What is his favorite sport? Are hunting and fishing sports? In highschool he was a stand out football player. He also loves to play basketball.

11. When and where did you first kiss? I was getting very impatient because he was definitely taking his time! It was on a cold December evening outside my townhouse in Houston about 6 weeks after we started dating.

12. What is your favorite thing to do as a couple? I'm not sure how he would answer this but I personally love to watch movies together in our bed at night. But it's been a long time since we've done that since our DVD player broke, note to self: get a new dvd player!

Our 1st Married Christmas 2004

13. Do you have any children? Our twin sons Andrew & Adam will be 2 on Monday, YIKES!! And since we did IVF there was a third embryo that was supposed to be stored on ice for the future but ultimately didn't make it and I always wonder who they would have been, does that count??

14. Does he have a hidden talent? Kenny played the tuba in the band and he also has a double black belt in karate but refuses to demonstrate any of his moves for me. He's also a fantastic cook.

15. How old is he? He turned 27 in October, making him still a young man compared to me since I'll be 30, YIKES, in January.

16. Who said "I love you" first? He told me he loved me about 3-4 months after we started dating but I just said "Thank you", he wasn't very happy about that. But I told him that I had never and would never say that to anyone unless I was marrying them. So after he proposed I said it three times in a row!

17. What is his favorite type of music? He likes Texas country.

18. What do you most admire about him? I admire that he is THE most honest person I've ever met. Even though I think he can be painfully honest at times I know that I can always count on him to tell it like he sees it.

19. Do you think he will read this? If I tell him I blogged about him, I'm sure he will!

20. Where did you go on your first date? He came to Houston and took me to Little Pappasito's then we went to Marble Slab for ice cream. We should have called it a night at that point because we'd had a perfect evening but then we made a bad choice to play "Moon Golf" and it was incredibly hot, humid, way too slow, and we were surrounded by a herd of junior high kids. Oh well, we still went out on a second date!

I now tag you Sarah, Allison, Rebecca, & Erica!!

Busting out the Christmas Jammies Already!

As you can see below, we're already wearing our Christmas Jammies even though it's still November and not even Thanksgiving yet. The holiday cheer is just too much fun to wait for, especially when you have little ones running around!

My budding artists! We met friends at the Children's Museum Friday and the easel painting was a hit. And by "easel" painting I mean literally they painted the easel, I guess their artistic passion couldn't be tamed by just a small sheet of paper.

A Budding Picasso?

So cute and serious!

Pajama Time!!

"Should we be naughty or nice today?"

Great Preemie Article

This is a great but heart wrenching article about some of the issues that parents in extreme pre-term labor are faced with.

Let's all just smile!

Thanks Rachel for the Smile Award! Rachel also has twins plus two more and all four of her kiddos are absolutely stunning.

I'm supposed to pass this on but I'm a rule breaker and just can't choose only a few people whose blogs make me smile. According to Bloglines I follow 117 blogs plus about 5 more that don't have public feeds. That's why I stopped adding blogs to my sidebar about a year ago. So if you aren't listed, don't take it personally, chances are I am keeping tabs on you!! Is there such a thing as Bloggers Anonymous because I might be addicted! Thank you to everyone that opens up a little window into their lives for us to follow, it truly is a joy to see so many lovely people out there!

Andrew helps me call in the dogs

This video cracks me up. Andrew is calling our dog Reagan to come back, we don't have a fence yet and she keeps running away. My favorite part is when he realizes I'm recording him. So cute!

4 Years Today!

Today Kenny & I celebrated 4 years of marriage, though he'll be the first to tell you he's aged about 10 years since that rainy November day when we tied the knot in front of family and friends. I wish I could go back and attend my wedding as a guest because it went by way too fast but despite the gloomy weather, it was a beautiful ceremony and a very special day.

We celebrated this anniversary with a road trip to Houston. We dropped the boys off at Grandma & Grandpa's house (Thank you for watching them!!)

I love how Adam & Andrew love each other:

We ate a special dinner at Mark's

They brought us a surprise mini chocolate cake

But I don't think it was nearly as good as the dessert our boys (Grandma) got for us:

We also went to see the Rockets play the Mavericks
(Isn't my hubby handsome!)

Lovely self portrait

Unfortunately Yao Ming was hurt and didn't play but oh my is he a real life GIANT!!

Then we stayed the night at the Hilton Americas in downtown before picking up the kids and heading home this morning. What a fun little mini-trip we had together!

Here are some random pics from before my laptop went offline:

They climbed in this themselves, these two are double trouble!

Three cheers for Andrew!

(sorry for using so many old pics but my laptop won't connect to the internet so I'm using Kenny's)

Andrew's greatest delay right now is in his fine motor skills. Cerebral Palsy, although very very mild, still effects the muscles in his hands and arms and makes it hard for him to grasp and release and maneuver his hands the way he wants and leads to lots of frustration for him and makes occupational therapy his very least favorite activity. He especially has difficulty holding a spoon or crayon and uses what his therapist refers to as a "reverse dagger hold".

Anyways, all this to say that before today he's never stacked the small wooden blocks higher than 2 high because his aim and release is just not there. Well today he amazed us by building, with some minimal help, a tower 6 blocks high. We were so proud of him and so was he. He threw his arms in there air and yelled "Yay!!"

Andrew, you've taught me to never take things for granted and even small tasks can be like giant mountains sometimes and I'm always amazed and blessed to sit back and watch you slay the giants in your life. Thanks for working hard and never giving up!

Brain Dump

I think I'm finally getting over this nasty strep infection. It's been probably 15 years since I last had strep and I don't remember ever being that sick for that long and having so much pain. Yuck! I honestly can't even remember most of last week, it was that bad. The boys seem to be feeling better from their ear infections too now. We are glad to have Daddy back from the deer lease. I'm so grateful for my awesome parents for taking us in and caring for us while we were down, way down. I just hope they don't get sick now.

In other news, Andrew continues to make amazing progress with his walking. 6 weeks ago he could barely walk without his afo's and now you almost can't even tell a difference when he's not wearing them. So much in fact that his pt wants him to only wear them on week days now so he gets practice with and without them. This is amazing since they originally thought he'd need them through kindergarten. He still has an odd gait and falls often, they think this is due to his left femur which is still shorter than his right femur. We go back to the orthopeadic surgeon in a few months for repeat hip x-rays and to discuss getting him a lift for the left leg.

The local March of Dimes has asked Adam & Andrew to be the Ambassadors for this area and I'm working on writing their story for print media and it's been very difficult getting started, I guess it's just that time of year when I relive everything that happened in the days preceding their birth. It's all still so very fresh. Get over it already!, I'm sure people think that. I know most people can't understand how the pain still simmers despite the fact that I have two handsome healthy little boys running around me. I know how blessed I am, I do and I'm so very grateful.

My Big Boy!

It's hard to believe he was ever a tiny 2 pound micro-preemie baby but Adam now weighs in at 30 lbs even. In less than two years he's 15 x's his birth weight, amazing. That's 77% for his actual age and 90% for his adjusted age. This big boy has a very healthy appetite. Thank you Lord for this healthy, happy, lovely little boy!

Here's Adam at 11 days old, weighing under 2 lbs after dropping below his birth weight. See those pink spots above the tubing on my chest by my collar? Those are his tiny fingers!

God is SO good!

101 Things They Can Say!

At 23.5 months actual and 20 months adjusted, Andrew & Adam have just crossed the 101 word mark. Now a few of these words only one or the other will say but as soon as I say that's "Adam/Andrew's" word, then the other will use it so I just stopped separating their lists and combined them. I've bolded a few of the funny ones ;-).

We will be released from speech therapy at the end of this calendar year since they are way ahead now (though I hate to lose the momentum). When we started in August they only had a couple of words. The average 24 month old has 50 words so they are really doing amazing. Praise the Lord!

In addition they also sign: thank you, all done, bye, help, more, cookie, & please

Andrew has said a few phrases: "What dis?" "Gig'em Aggies" & "Me do it". When you ask him what his name is he says "An-doo".

When I ask them how old they are going to be, they stick their hands out and shout enthusiastically "Twoooo"! They both like to say "Hi Baby" to every stranger passing by, "Hi Daddy", "Hi Katie" (my cousin who babysits), etc..

Now that we've passed 100 I'm going to stop counting because it's too hard to keep up with!

Updated Update Sick & Tired of Being Sick & Tired

Thank you all for the prayers and encouragement!

The boys are going in to the pedi's office this afternoon, it looks like they may have ear infections and Adam has some sort of an infection in his big toe. What's the deal with us? I'm ready for everyone to be better!

UPDATE: Well both boys have major ear infections and Adam has a staph infection in his toe. They cultured it to make sure it's not MRSA but they feel that's unlikely. So now Adam is on 2 antibiotics and Andrew is on 1 and I'm on 1. Sure hope these things kick in soon or Granny is going to wish she didn't live so nearby!

UPDATED Update: I heard from my doctor this afternoon and I don't have mono Hallelujah! I do however have some sort of yucky bacteria growing but they aren't sure what yet. I haven't gotten any better since I started the Zpak and my white blood cell count is pretty high so they are switching me to a stronger antibiotic. The doctor said to go to the ER if I'm not doing any better this weekend. But I highly doubt I would ever do that for a sore throat, I mean I have sick kids at home.

Anyway, tomorrow is THE day I start to feel better! Please Lord!

Still Down

Well I had a very rough night last night and was very sad when I didn't wake up better today but actually worse. My throat was so swollen that I could hardly talk, swallow, or breathe normally. I thought this was a virus that would run it's course but after so many days of worsening symptoms I thought I should go in to the doctor.

Thank goodness for my mom who took Adam from me after I dropped Andrew off at school, so that I could go to my doctor's appt. My lymph nodes are so swollen that my neck feels huge to me. The doctor doesn't think I have a viral throat infection but either strep throat, tonsillitis, or worst of all Mono which won't be helped by the meds and would really be lousy. They sent off a throat swab and ran some blood tests and started me on a Z-pak. And then I might have to go on penicillan afterwards depending on the test results.

My wonderful mom brought me some soup, throat spray, my prescription, picked Andrew up from school, and then took both the boys home with her for the night so hopefully I can get a good nights sleep. Thanks Granny & Pa! I REALLY hope I wake up feeling better tomorrow, being sick is the pits.

Tales from the crib

This really made me laugh. Sorry for the poor quality but I caught this video of Adam's nap time on the baby monitor.

If I could narrate it, Adam would say:

"I wonder how I can get them to let me out of nap time early."

"Maybe they'll feel sorry for me if they see that all my stuff "accidently" fell out of my crib"

"Time for the waterworks"

"Oh good, Daddy fell for it ;-)"

In other news, I've had a really rough day. My throat feels like it has razor blades in it and my body is weak and achey. I'm praying tomorrow I wake up good as new!

Dance Fever

Adam rocks out to the Beastie Boys with Uncle Stevie & Aunt Amy

video

Mama's got the yuckies too!

I should have been nicer to Kenny yesterday because now I know exactly how he was feeling =-(. My body feels like lead, my throat is ick, and my apolgies for lack of a better description, I just feel like dog doo doo.

The boys have all bounced back pretty quickly so I'm hoping I will too.
