I'm Thankful They Can See

Although they look adorably studious in Granny's glasses I'm so thankful that they don't currently need them to see the world around them.

Protection of Adam & Andrew's Eyesight was something that we constantly prayed for when the boys were in the NICU, especially when they both developed Retinapothy of Prematurity, one of the leading causes of blindness in children. God was merciful to us and their ROP resolved on its own, just in time to not need laser eye surgery. This was such a huge blessing. In addition, we were told that even if Andrew's eyes were not damaged, the injury to his brain may cause him to lose his ability to see. Again our prayers were answered and Andrew has excellent vision.

I often feared that my children might never see my face smiling at them, that they might never enjoy a sunset or a rainbow, or appreciate a beautiful landscape. To know that they can see is such a gift that we will never take for granted, especially when many of our preemie friends have impaired or no vision at all.

My hope is that one day there will be a cure/prevention for ROP, no child should have to suffer the loss of their vision.
