Andrew: School & Health Update

Health Update
Andrew has been having some health difficulties lately and could use your prayers. Next Monday he will be having several procedures done. He has been having some scary respiratory episodes that include stridor and intercostal retraction. Our ENT believes he may have some sort of airway obstruction, paralyzed vocal cord, or other issue so he will be having a Laryngoscopy & a Bronchoscopy under anesthesia. They will also be giving him new ear tubes and performing a lymph node biopsy. He has several lymph nodes in his neck that are enlarged and many more that were visible on his recent ct scan. Most likely this is just due to his young body trying to fight off infections but because of the slight possibility of Lymphoma, they are going to remove and test one of the nodes since he will already be sedated.

The ENT also discussed removing his tonsils and adenoids too because his tonsils are very enlarged and we believe he may have sleep apnea but we've collectively decided to hold off on that for now since he is already having so much done.

He might be kept overnight for observation due to the breathing issues but we don't know for sure yet.

In addition to all this he has a SEVERE ear infection and his poor little ear has been bleeding for three days. We've been to the ENT and had several phone discussions but for now they are just giving him drops in anticipation of new tubes next week. The drops are causing him a lot of pain but our instructions are to continue for a few more days before trying something else.

We would really appreciate your prayers for Andrew and his BIG day next Monday!!

School Update:
Last Tuesday, on his third birthday, Andrew had his ARD meeting with our school district to determine what happens now that he graduated due to age from our states Early Childhood Intervention Program. He was tested on every facet of his existence and I'm so proud to report that he is at or above his true age in speech, social, and cognition! Way to go Big Drew!! He is way too smart to be enrolled in any of the districts special ed preschool programs. Quite remarkable actually.

However on his gross motor, fine motor, and sensory processing, he tested at only 18 months. Therefore he is considered to have an orthopedic impairment. Thus he will now be getting PT & OT every other week through the school district. I had to fill out all the paper work to enroll him in school just like if he were starting Kindergarten, pretty eerie!

Often parents have to fight really hard to get any therapy through the district so we are very pleased with the results and since they recommended he stay in his current educational setting, he is really going to get the best of both worlds.

Poor little Andrew. I'll pray for him, ya'll and the doctors as he goes through all of the procedures. I'm glad and proud to hear how well he did on his testing, but also glad that he'll be able to receive services for his other needs. God bless you little Andrew as you endure these tests at such a young age.

This picture of Andrew is precious. I look at that healthy, big boy and then look at your sidebar to that palm-sized little baby boy by that pink highlighter and just am in awe at the Lord's might.

I just got tears in my eyes when I read he was at or above a three year old in speech and socialization. Go, Andrew! Mainly, go, Mom and Dad!! And, most importantly, God be praised!!!!

I am sorry about Andrew's ears and will be praying about that.

I will be praying for Andrew's medical issues. I know it's never easy to have them go under anesthesia. That's so awesome that he tested so well on so much AND that he will get the services he needs elsewhere (we are still fighting for that for Samuel 4 years later).

Lots of prayers for Andrew! I can imagine how hard it is for you as well as Andrew. Prayers for mom and dad too.

Glad to hear the school district is going to continue with some therapy. It boggles my mind that they really believe all these kids "catch up" by age 3. ECI informed me last week that "they don't adjust for age after a year" Crazy!

Poor little guy! Praying so that all goes well Monday! And way to go, big guy! Thrilled that he doesn't qualify for special ed classes, glad he's getting physical therapy.
Still here, still praying!
