In other words, what is currently costing patients $200 for an entire pregnancy's worth of drugs will now cost the $30,000!!!
The drug company claims they will not deny coverage to those who cannot financially afford it but when you read the strict restrictions on who would qualify, it's clear that next to no one will qualify under those terms.
In the past this drug has been produced by various compounding pharmacies and the argument by the Drug company is that it will now be safer and more consistent since there will be only one manufacturer. Don't buy into that because I haven't heard one doctor or patient anywhere have a single complaint about the quality of what they were receiving. Also, this argument is weak because nearly EVERY SINGLE medication given to my tiny babies in the NICU was made in the same manner by a compounding pharmacy so someone please explain to me why that was okay but this is not.
I find it very unlikely that private insurance or state medicaid are going to be able pay for this and the result will be that many many women will go without and more babies will be born early and many will not survive.
One doctor I know said 90% of his patients that need 17P, will not be able to get it now.
